More post partum wear: nursing pads for breastfeeding mothers

I've found a nursing breast pad that I like - Johnson & Johnson.  They are contoured and packaged without folding, unlike Lansinoh pads, which are folded and individually packaged in plastic.  The downside of Lansinoh breast pads is that they have an unfortunate crease and are not contoured, they have looked lumpy through my bra, whereas Johnson & Johnson pads are much more natural looking.  I found mine at Wal-Mart, and I think they were less expensive too. They are also available at Amazon: Johnsons Nursing Pads - 60 ea

Reusable cloth nursing pads are another option, but I have not tried them yet and I may not experiment with them since I've been happy with Johnson & Johnson.

What to wear post-partum? (after the baby?)

I'm wondering what I will wear after new babe arrives. Probably maternity clothes for a little while, and "comfy" clothes like yoga pants. What did you wear post-partum? I was impressed in the hospital with earlier pregnancies when I saw new moms fully dressed (and I was still lounging in hospital gowns). I liked pulling up my shirt to nurse and never bought much "nursing wear". I thought I'd like button fronts, but hiking up a t-shirt was much easier for me.

I need to search out nursing bras -- with the first two I got sports-bra style nursing bras from Target that worked. I seemed to always be going to Target anyway, and they have their nursing bras where they are easily found. I do want to check Macy's and Victoria's Secret nursing bras (although I've heard that some stores keep nursing bras in the back and you have to ask for them -- inconvenient, but good to know). I like having a large opening for easy access, and easy flaps or openings with not too much hardware to mess around with. I've heard very good things about the Elle MacPherson nursing bras. I found I went from a 34 to 38 band size after my first.... I wonder what this time will be like....

What is your advice for good, attractive, functional post-partum wear?

Getting bigger! Managing the last few weeks. Love borrowed clothes!

New baby may arrive as early as September 23. I have been getting bigger and bigger and outgrowing a few more maternity clothes. Thank goodness for one of my best friends, who dropped off a bag of maternity clothes in a size bigger than what I thought I'd need..... I went through those clothes and found a few tops and bottoms that will help me stretch through these last few weeks. Even though I'd wear a L top, some of the XL tops with ties in the back can be cinched up and work out OK. And it's nice having a little flow-y fabric, when my M tops are tight (although I've read that it's OK to be a little tight and show off the belly).

I'm still feeling pretty good, baby is moving A LOT, and I still feel cute -- hooray!

Diaper Bag Contest

Drew at Read to Me, Dad is hosting a wonderful contest for Baby Sherpa diaper bags. Check it out! There are three prizes available: a Baby Sherpa Diaper Bag Backpack, a Short Haul Diaper Backpack, and a DayLite Mini Diaper Bag.

As we are expecting baby boy #3 in October, I'm participating in this contest. We've managed to get by with only one diaper bag for our first two sons, now ages almost 4 and 2 years old. We've used a Skip Hop diaper bag, which has been fine, but I'm not that great at finding things in the way bottom of the bag. Also, our Skip Hop doesn't always get used. I've taken to using all kinds of other bags as diaper bags -- most notably plastic Target shopping bags (reduce, reuse, recycle, right???) and if I end up with a small shopping bag from a "fancy" store, like Ann Taylor or wherever -- those get used too. So I end up with multiple plastic and paper bags in the van and it's just not quite as organized or appropriate as it should be.

I'm very interested in trying a "hands-free" diaper bag experience -- a backpack style seems perfect, especially when I've got multiple kids on the go, and we have been doing more and more outdoor adventures.

Head over to Drew's site to participate between now and August 15. Good luck!

Maternity clothing update

Well, I never got around to creating an inventory and cost total for my maternity wardrobe -- it's something about having two toddlers and family life that got in the way, plus while I admire organized people, I'm not always one of them..... so, I'm sorry to say that didn't get done.

But I think I owe at least an update of how the maternity wardrobe is working for me. Overall, I think I've achieved my goal of having a small yet functional wardrobe. Here's the notes:

-- I needed to go out and get more maternity shorts. It got HOT. I picked up 2 or 3 pairs at Target for $20 each. As much as I *love* my Gap walking shorts, I needed shorts *now* and Target is closer than the mall. Bought a few, tried them on at home, returned what didn't work on my near-weekly Target runs.

-- The black secret fit pants from Motherhood have been my best friends for work wear. I've worn them the most of any maternity item.

-- All the cute, colorful short sleeve blouses I got for work wear are not getting used. They have been worn once, and are now sitting in my closet, laundered but un-ironed and wrinkly. This is not good. I have realized that I'm not an ironer, and it's not gonna happen unless I haul them to the dry cleaner for pressing, which should be on today's to-do list if I want to get these babies worn again (and I do, they're cute!) Definitely factor into your shopping whether you iron or not when considering very cute cotton blouses.

-- With 2 months left to go -- my wonderful clothes are getting TIGHT. Dang! Those wonderful Gap walking shorts -- too tight. Some other bottoms are on the cusp of being too tight. I'm right between a size Large and Extra Large on bottom, and it's frustrating because I have several XL things shared with me by friends that slide off and I'm hiking them up (yeah, attractive), or my clothes that still fit are getting snug. I think I should cut out the soda. That said, this is probably a normal pregnancy thing and I may have been a little optimistic buying those L pants when I was firmly in XL pants my second pregnancy. Anyway -- the lesson learned (for any readers) is to save a little money to get a few larger things later in pregnancy if you should need it. I'm sure I'll figure something out here, don't worry!

-- Accessories are so important during pregnancy. I have felt cute by getting more and more wear out of bracelets, earrings, necklaces and shoes... not so much for everyday (the kids pull on jewelry) but for special times like work or when I'm out by myself.

That's the update! I was delighted to read that Allie at My Wardrobe Today is expecting her first -- and she looks fab as usual. Check out her site for lots more maternity wear outfit examples!

Baby #3 is another boy!

Just like one of my favorite bloggers,  our third child is going to be a boy!  And,  just like her, I've been scouting out baby clothes at bargain prices at resale shops.  The focus around here may be all baby for a little while while we celebrate the news of our third son.

Side note:  I see so many cute non-maternity clothes right now!  It's a curse -- great clothes when I'm not able to wear them.
